The Bamboo used to produce fabrics is easily replenished and requires no pesticides to grow. Bamboo is considered one of the most sustainable plants because it grows quickly and does not require chemicals or irrigation, and biodegrades more quickly than oil-based synthetics. Bamboo rayon is made by dissolving pulp bamboo into its cellulose component and then spun into viscose fibers. Clothing made of bamboo rayon typically lasts even longer and holds its shape even better than clothing made of simple bamboo fiber. Advantages Eco PrintBamboo is a powerhouse when it comes to protecting the planet’s resources. Maturing in only two years, it doesn’t require fertilizer or pesticides to grow quickly and strongly. Built in Temperature ControlIn textile form bamboo retains many of the properties it has a plant. Bamboo is highly water absorbent, able to take up to three times its weight in water. In bamboo fabric, this translates to an excellent wicking ability that will pull moisture away from the skin so that it can evaporate. This makes it great for both hot and cool climates, bamboo clothing offers built-in temperature control. It traps warm air in its cross-sectional fibers to keep you warm in the winter, while its breathable nature and wicking properties keep moisture at bay for greater comfort in hot times. Chemical FreeAfter processing, the bamboo fiber does not contain any harmful chemicals (as per global testing and accreditation system for the screening of harmful substances within consumer textiles) HypoallergenicBamboo clothing has a luxuriously soft fabric that is naturally hypoallergenic, moisture- absorbent and quick drying. The fiber is naturally smooth and round without chemical treatment, meaning that there are no sharp spurs to irritate the skin. TextureBamboo can look and feel like silk or very soft cotton. Antibacterial & OdorlessBamboo also has many antibacterial qualities, which bamboo fabric is able to retain, even through multiple washings. Bamboo exhibits up to a 99.8% antibacterial rate. This helps to reduce bacteria that thrive in clothing and cause unpleasant odors. It can also kill odor causing bacteria that live on human skin, making the wearer and his or her clothing smell sweet. UV ResistantThis eco fabric will also protect you from the sun with its UV resistant qualities FAQ on Bamboo Is it true that bamboo clothing is anti-microbial?The bamboo plant has a natural resistance to pest and fungal infestation due to an ant-microbial agent known as “bamboo kun” that prevents harmful matters from cultivating on the plant. Where does bamboo come from? There are over 1,000 species of bamboo growing throughout the world. You can find wild bamboo growing in Central America, South America, South Africa, India, East Asia, Japan and the north of Australia. Globally, bamboo covers approximately 49 million acres of the world’s surface. Is the process used to manufacture bamboo textiles harmful to the environment? Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plant on earth with a growth rate of over 12 inches per day Bamboo is tremendously strong and pest resistant. No fertilizers, pesticides or irrigation is required. Bamboo does not require replanting. The shoots are cut to their base and the bamboo re-grows from new shoots.  Why choose bamboo fabric over other fabrics ? #ditchpoly THE EYE-OPENING TRUTH BEHIND COTTON & SYNTHETIC TEXTILE PRODUCTION: Approximately half a pound of pesticides/insecticides/fertilizers was expelled into the environment for every single cotton t-shirt made. Cotton plantations account for more than 10% of pesticide use, and 25% of insecticide use worldwide. These chemicals are among the most harmful on the planet, many of them are carcinogenic. The clothing industry is one of the most polluting on the planet, heavily contributing to soil contamination, water pollution, deforestation, greenhouse gases etc. The chemicals used in clothing production heavily contaminate the soil and the water where they are grown and find their way into our food and drinking water. If we take into consideration the fossil fuels needed for its production, the CO2 emissions generated by the manufacture of polyester are nearly 3 times more than those for cotton. When washed, synthetic fabrics reject hundreds of thousands of plastic microfibers in piping and contribute significantly to the pollution of the oceans by plastic

To help you out in finding some of the best organic fibres in the market, I have selected top 5 organic clothing on the basis of their durability, price, comfort and availability. Without putting your curiosity on hold, lets start the table from 5 to 1.                             5. FLEX FIBRE Flex fabric is made from the cellulose fibers that grow inside of the stalks of the flax plant, one of the oldest cultivated plants in the history of mankind . Flax is an annual plant, which means it only lives for one growing season. It is obtained from the inner bark of the stem of a plant grown in temperate and subtropical regions around the globe. It is a natural, cellulosic, multi-cellular bast fiber. Flax fiber is 10–100 cm in length. Its diameter varies from 40 to 80 μm. Linen provides warmth in winter and coolness in summer. Linen usually has a textured feel often described as toothy. However when dealing with high-end fashion bedding, refining of the fiber during production can result in sheeting that has a smooth hand; light and soft to the touch. Linen is expensive since it’s hard to weave. Linen fiber is inelastic and easy to break in the production process, that’s why its cost of production is higher than most of the fabrics.                                    4. SILK FIBRE Silk is a natural protein fiber, some forms of which can be woven into textiles. The protein fiber of silk is composed mainly of fibroin and is produced by certain insect larvae to form cocoons. Today silk is produced mostly in China, India, and Japan. Silkworms, which are really caterpillars, are fed mulberry leaves, mulberry leaves, and only mulberry leaves. They never stop eating. That means feedings every four hours. Real silk will get warm, while fake silk stays cool. Luster and Smoothness: Silk is known for its glistening sheen, and it always feels much smoother than artificial fabric. … For a smoothness test, run your hand across the material. The fibers should feel sleek, and the entire cloth should drape naturally. Silk comes from the thread produced by silk worms, a little at a time. Harvesting the silk threads is very time-consuming and it takes many worms to produce enough silk to make the cloth, which makes it very expensive.                              3. WOOL  FIBRE Woolen fabric is a soft fabric with a fuzzy texture. It is bulky, heavy and very warm and quite inexpensive compared to worsted fabrics. It is made from woolen yarns made from short woolen fibers, which are loosely spun with a low or medium twist. The wool fibers have crimps or curls, which create pockets and give the wool a spongy feel and create insulation for the wearer. Wool yarn isn’t a high-priced, although there are rare product that you need to seek out from specialist. It is used mainly for carpets, rugs, and inexpensive low-grade clothing.                               4.COTTON FIBRE Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fiber that grows in a boll, or protective case, around the seeds of the cotton plants of the genus Gossypium in the mallow family Malvaceae. The fiber is almost pure cellulose. Under natural conditions, the cotton bolls will increase the dispersal of the seeds. It is strong enough to take a beating without ripping the fabric (at least most days!) but soft enough that your body welcomes it whether you pull them on tight or baggy. Cotton pajama feel like encouragement for taking a lazy Sunday after you’ve been running hard for a couple of days. With an established reputation of being the “best” cotton in the world, its softness, strength and superior characteristics, have positioned products made of Egyptian cotton as the world’s finest. Egyptian cotton is hand picked which guarantees the highest levels of purity. Cotton cost varies according to its multiple varieties although its availability range from really cheap to expensive stuff.                                             5. Sustainable Fashion…

A Clothing Trend Everyone Needs To Follow! Before we get started with ‘Sustainable Fashion’ let’s talk about trendy fashion. It has to be the only word gen-z and millennials think about all the time! I mean I don’t remember the last time I went out of my house without having care in the world about my outfit. There are so many ‘trends’ out there which celebrities are bringing in light and also many fashion bloggers, lifestyle YouTubers are trying to tell their audiences. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. This extra fashion knowledge is making this generation look more presentable than ever! Here’s a quote I love… Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life. – Bill Cunnigham. Now, I can probably talk about fashion and trends for the whole day. But that’s not why we are here! I am going to highlight a topic called ‘Sustainable Fashion’. If you have never heard of it, that is just alright because while reading this blog you will read so many interesting things and by the end of it, you will know how to be the fashion diva who is also saving the Earth. Sustainable Fashion: The first thing to know, sustainable fashion does not have only one definition or only one form. Sustainable Fashion can mean producing clothes in a more environmentally friendly manner. It can mean not purchasing new clothes but sharing, donating the worn clothes. Wearing a dress once does not make it unwearable or worn out. Wearing the same clothing a few times a week can help you purchase fewer clothes hence, sustainable clothing! Clothes can be recyclable. So, using an old cloth for various majors will only help you to cut down the extra purchase. Sustainable Clothing Materials: There are many factors when thinking about the sustainability of a material. The renewability and supply of a fiber, the process of the way an uncooked fiber has become a textile, the effect of dying of the fibers, the working situations of the human beings generating the materials, and the material’s general carbon footprint, transportation between production plants, chemical compounds used to preserve shipments sparkling in containers, transport to retail and consumer, how the material could be cared for and washed, the strategies of repairs and updates, etc. Trust me when I say this, there is a lot more than this to think while keeping in mind the sustainability of the product. There are materials like cotton, bt cotton, organic cotton, naturally colored cotton. These materials are highly used in the fashion industry. because they are durable and compatibly less priced. The demand for these is so much that producers make a whole lot of money by only producing cotton clothes. Cotton uses lots of pesticides and insecticides which is harmful to the environment. Now, let me introduce you to eco-friendly products that are just perfect and deserve a whole lot of attention! SOY FABRIC- Soy fabrics can be derived from hulls of soybeans plants. This fabric is biodegradable, moisture absorbent, anti-bacterial. But it is not as long-lasting as cotton. Plus point of soy fabric is that it can be blended or made entirely out of soy fabrics. Because it is biodegradable, it does less harm to the environment or landfills. HEMP- Hemp is a sustainable crop similar to Bamboo. Hemp seeds are processed into oil or food. It requires a lot of water to grow and its deep taproot system allows it to draw moisture in the ground. These hemp fibers are coarse so, they are used in making ropes than in clothing. But, because of modern technology, it is possible to make hemp softer and more suitable to be used as a clothing item. BAMBOO- Bamboo fabrics are made from bamboo grass. The reason it is considered sustainable is that it requires no pesticides whatsoever. It is naturally disease and pest resistant. it grows faster than other trees or grass. Bamboos are slightly yellow colored so, during the process of making bamboo fabrics, it is mixed with some chemicals. MuSkin- MuSkin is an alternative to leather made from the cap of the phellinus ellipsoids mushroom, a parasitic fungus that grows in subtropical forests. It is water repellent and contains natural penicillin substances that limit bacteria proliferation. It was founded by an Italian company called Zero Grado Escape. PET Plastic- These plastics are usually your plastic water bottles, juice beverages, etc. These plastics are collected, compressed, baled, and shipped into processing facilities where they will be chopped into flakes, and melted into small white pellets. Then, the pellets are processed again and spun into the yarn-like fiber where it can be made into clothing. Because we are recycling the plastics, ‘PET Plastic’ comes under sustainable fashion! Ethics + Aesthetics = Sustainable Fashion.

GOOD APPAREL: SUSTAINABILITY FROM FACTORY FLOOR TO FASHION

Environment-Bamboo grows naturally in many places that are not suitable for traditional farming and requires little water for successful growth. Bamboo also processes large amounts of carbon dioxide. It is 35% more efficient at recycling carbon dioxide than any other tree. This is very useful when considering the rapid deforestation of the world’s forests. Bamboo is found in diverse climates from tropical to frigid zones. It is naturally regenerated and can be harvested in three to five years, making it a very sustainable crop. Another great advantage of bamboo is that it does not require chemicals for its production. If this means having clothes that can be worn safely, and without chemicals, of course, this must be the main reason to buy bamboo clothes. Working in the sustainable fashion space lends itself to a great deal of intentionality when it comes to the “hows” of the production. Where it was made? Who made it? What materials were used?Yet a less explored and arguably just as important question stands: Why do you wear it? What does it say about the one who is wearing it? What’s the occasion? We often present clothing as singular occasion must-haves- the little black dress for the night out. The sheer cover up for the beach. The blazer for the office. Yet fashion is more than the color of the season or the length of a skirt; fashion is a way to spread ideas, concepts, philosophies, and zeitgeist. Sustainable fashion is the intersection between social responsibilty and environmentalism. Although we live in a age where mass consumerism is triumphing all, the fair trade movements is definitely growing more traction for the millennial generation that questions more and engages deeply. When everything is concentrated on making profits, what you see is that the environment and human rights get lost. So little we can do is to switch to bamboo clothing towards saving the earth and living in sustainability. Bamboo fibre is one of the ideal materials that have immense advantages. Bamboo fibre fabric has some feature that are considered as its benefits. Hypoallergenic-bamboo dough is naturally hypoallergenic. This is a tremendous advantage to individuals who experience the ill effects of hypersensitivities. Regularly individuals endure chafing and frequently excruciating rashes from wearing attire which have been delivered utilizing substance forms. Recently these individuals find that they can wear clothes made out of bamboo without encountering any of the responses they get from different textures and this is particularly essential in connection to individuals with respiratory issues. · Anti-mildew is a great quality for bamboo clothing, especially in humid climates. Clothes can be stored and remain dry and odorless.· UV resistant, perfect for athletes and those who need to work or play in the sunlight.· Naturally anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. This implies that they will stop the development of bacteria and give you the confidence that they will not smell.· Insulation properties. Bamboo has very good thermal insulation, but it is also breathable. In other words, it is warm in winter and cool in summer.· Moisturizing Moisture- Bamboo has the incredible benefits of keeping skin moist and keeping it cool and dry. It has the astounding advantage of drawing dampness far from your skin which keeps you new and dry. This makes it perfect for sportspeople, trampers or any individual who invests a considerable measure of energy outside.· Body odor can be a real annoyance for some people, and bamboo clothing can be the solution you want to trust.· Easy to clean- Bamboo clothing is easy to clean because it can be washed with cold water. Also, the amount of soap is minimal due to its natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. In the time like now people are bending more towards nature and seek highly of natural, green, healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle. To keep in mind many budding and established designers are realising that in the severe competiton of clothing market, raw materials and fabrics play an important role to get ahead in the race. They started using bamboo and other environmentally raw materials in the making of fashionable clothes. Some of the brands even started adding bamboo in their label name such as Bamboo century in order to attract customers. Although this big change in the fashion industry proved to be a win-win situation. Beyond the role of fashion as a means of self expression, there’s power in your dollar. The focus is not solely towards the medium of aid to the lesser privileged- rather, allowing artisans fair trade wages and premiums to workers. A large majority of what we pay had ended up far from those who need it. Although it would be wrong to strip relief aid of all potential good in can initiate, in terms of the long term, charity is not solution. However when it comes to one’s skills- leading to micro enterprise, microfinance to name a few- a chance towards economic development is born: something enduring, which is what most of the ethical brands strive to do.And so, although at the end of the day it might be a tough to rid one’s self of the sentiments of detachment and see your clothes as catalysts of change, the truth of the matter is that they hold a great deal of social responsibility and environmental consequences. So whether it’s through engaging in fair trade purchases, to thrifting, to simply consuming less, the time is now to add depth to the sphere of fashion.
